What is qualifying training?
Definition of qualifying training
Unlike the various courses you may take during your higher education, qualifying training does not lead to a specific diploma or title. With an immediate professional objective, it allows you to obtain an internship certificate at the end of the training or a certificate of competence related to the professional environment in which you work.
Qualifying training is recognized by employers when a collective agreement provides for it. Thus, the skills you gain by taking one of these courses can be directly valued in your company, particularly in the context of development or job promotion. Indeed, the main objective of qualifying training is to maintain the employability of employees in a company, allowing them to develop new know-how related to current issues.

Who is it for?
Qualifying training is aimed at employees eager to acquire new skills or consolidate their achievements. However, it can also be useful for freelancers or job seekers looking to strengthen their offering or highlight their strengths. This also allows them to better position themselves for a career change or expand their criteria in terms of job or client searches.
How does it work?
Qualifying training is provided internally, in a training organization, or in a specialized institution. Although it rarely exceeds one year, qualifying training can be short or long depending on the skills to be acquired. It usually runs in parallel with your working hours, but it can also take the form of evening, summer, or weekend courses.
Qualifying training has been able to carve out a place online. It is now possible to train at home, thanks to platforms dedicated to this use. Accompanied by a dedicated trainer or a support forum, you have access to content that allows you to validate new achievements.
To benefit from qualifying training, financial aids are available to you:
- Training plan Personal training account
- (CPF)
- Individual training aid (OIF)
- Return to Employment Aid Training Allowance (AREF)
Advantages
- Modular according to your schedule
- Opportunity to consolidate your skills or acquire new ones
- Allows you to be operational at the end of the training
- Can be taken remotely
- Can be funded by a third party or your employer

- Can be intensive
- Requires good organization
How can a training organization have its qualifying training?
To obtain qualifying training, a training organization can partner with a certifying body or create its own training. In both cases, it is highly recommended to be certified by the CPF to gain credibility and visibility, as well as to claim funding.
What is certified training?
Definition of certified training
After certified training, you can obtain a qualification certificate specific to a professional branch. Just like qualifying training, certified training has an immediate professional objective. On the other hand, certified training is directly linked to a specific profession, rather than an area of expertise. Thus, the qualification certificate awarded to the trained individual is recognized by the professional branch that created it, throughout France. To prevent fake certificates, standards attest to the value of the training. This is particularly the case for ISO or AFNOR standards.
Who is it for?
Certified training is intended solely for an already active audience. Indeed, it aims to meet the specific needs of a company, so it involves teaching know-how to already hired employees to meet these expectations.
How does it work?
There are two types of certification courses:
- Professional: They are issued by the Ministry of Employment, through a training organization, and are registered in the National Register of Professional Certifications (RNCP).
- Professional Qualification Certificates (CQP): Specific to a professional branch, the certificate is recognized by all companies in the sector as it corresponds to the reality of their professions and their issues.
Like qualifying training, certified training only takes place over a few days or even a few weeks. The goal is to be operational quickly. Again, it can be followed during your working hours or during your free time, in evening or weekend classes.
Finally, certified training can also be validated online, thanks to recognized organizations or dedicated platforms.
Advantages
- Adaptable according to profile and initial level of education
- Validated in a short time
- Less expensive than a diploma training
- Recognized by the related industry
- Possibility of being followed remotely
Disadvantages
- Does not offer multidisciplinary skills
- Limits access to professional opportunities due to very specific know-how
- Obligation to follow several certifications for the training to be competitive
How can a training organization have its certified training?
To obtain its certified training, a training organization must design its own certification and make it eligible for CPF. To do this, it must follow 4 basic steps:
- Determine the skills and job needs of the labor market
- Develop assessment methods and criteria
- Create committees to grant accreditation on behalf of the organization
- Certify the training that must be referenced in the RNCP
